It’s National Preschool Health & Fitness Day, and we sat down with two-time CrossFit Games Athlete and Hero Dad, Elijah Muhammad, to discuss how fitness has impacted his family dynamic. We develop many habits from our families, so it’s important to shape healthy lifestyles early on.
Exercising is a great way to bond and spend quality time with your family while promoting healthy habits. If you want to teach your children about fitness but don’t know where to start, Muhammad has some foundational tips to share. “I teach my kids the basics of weightlifting, gymnastics, and endurance. They can utilize these elements in everyday life. I explain how their body functions, from hanging on the monkey bars to running in a soccer game. Weightlifting, gymnastic, and endurance reinforce & enhance any sport or fitness activity they participate in.”
Muhammad recommends these movements for kids:
- Squats
- Push-ups
- Slam balls
- Jump rope
- PVC pipework to implement barbell movements
Utilize these tips to help your children build a strong foundation for health and fitness.
